Are parents qualified to teach their children?

In a study of homeschooling, Dr. Brian Ray discovered that having a parent who was trained as an educator made very little difference in student test scores.  Parents have an educational advantage that no teacher possesses. Parents know their children better and love their children more than any instructor. This parental motivation provides the incentive necessary to assist a prospective homeschooling parent. And while a parent may not possess every academic skill required to teach all subjects, there are many curriculum resources to supplement weak areas.
